Photo Safari with a pro
« on: August 02, 2009, 10:30:49 AM »
Tom Pm'ed me the other day and wanted to go shoot some blue grouse.  We took off Friday night to one of my favorite spots.  Well, we found everything but blue grouse.  I don't have time for a writeup but here are a few pictures.  Tom can post some really good ones.

Blacktail...

Snowshoe Hare

Nice pics.  That first buck is a real dandy!!! Very tall, decent forks and mass.   Does he fork in the back on his left hand side???

Beautiful! Looks like Obstruction... I got a pic with a disposable camera of 3 HUGE 5 point + BT's, all in the same frame, up there many years ago. Don't know where that pic is, but it was impressive. Problems was, they all probably were born, lived, and died without ever leaving the park.

Great work, Shawn.   Having tried and failed miserably to photograph flying dragonflies, I really appreciate how difficult that shot was.  Excellent!!

Nice pics.  That first buck is a real dandy!!! Very tall, decent forks and mass.   Does he fork in the back on his left hand side???
Yes.  He was a really nice blacktail.  A perfect 4x4.  Hopefully Tom has some better photos of him.  I only had 280mm and he had 800 or something...

Beautiful! Looks like Obstruction... I got a pic with a disposable camera of 3 HUGE 5 point + BT's, all in the same frame, up there many years ago. Don't know where that pic is, but it was impressive. Problems was, they all probably were born, lived, and died without ever leaving the park.
I don't know where Obstruction is, but it sounds like I should go there.  Next time I head your direction I'll PM you Rainshadow...

Wow, do you sell any of your pictures, framed in prints :dunno:
No, that would be no fun.  I would rather give them to you guys free to look at.

Great work, Shawn.   Having tried and failed miserably to photograph flying dragonflies, I really appreciate how difficult that shot was.  Excellent!!
It was a lot of hit and miss.  I think Tom thought I was half nuts.  He is probably wondering why I'm not shooting the wood duck and I'm pointing my camera at some little insects...

Great photos! What equipment are you using?
I was using a Canon 40D and a 70-200 f2.8 L IS.  Some shots had a 1.4x converter on them.  Nothing special for me.  Tom had the big 400mm f2.8 arm killer.
